NFVCB honours Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham for box office triumphs, recognising their record-breaking impact on Nollywood

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) identified with two amazon’s of Nollywood when it honoured both Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham for their remarkable success at the Nigerian box office, recognizing them as top figures in the industry.

The event, organised by the Managing Director of NFVCB, Dr Shaibu Husseini, in March, 2026, was attended by the General Manager of the National Arts Theatre, Mrs Tola Akerele, who represented Mrs Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.
The NFVCB celebrated Akindele with four industry awards, recognizing her as the Highest Grossing Nigerian Director.
She received the Box Office Champion Award (2020) for the film, Omo Ghetto: The Saga; the Audience Choice Award (2024/2025) for Everybody Loves Jenifa; the Box Office Champion Award (2024/2025) for Everybody Loves Jenifa; and the Box Office Champion Award (2025/2026) for Behind The Scenes.
Her film, A Tribe Called Judah, became the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, passing the ₦1.2 billion mark, while her 2024 film Everybody Loves Jenifa also achieved over ₦1 billion.
Toyin Abraham was awarded the “Box Office Champion” award by the NFVCB for her outstanding achievements, particularly for her 2025 project Oversabi Aunty grossing over ₦1 billion, marking a major milestone in her career.

Both actresses have been praised for breaking records and setting new standards for revenue in the Nigerian film industry, with both crossing the ₦1billion mark in recent productions.
