    CQ 6th Edition Is Out!

This fresh edition of your creative companion, the Culture Quarterly, comes with a bit of heavy heart. It is an edition that captures the grand exit of a number of popular names in Nigeria’s creative industry. But this beautiful package celebrates them nonetheless.

Stars exited in rapid succession and the industry felt it. From the legendary actor, Ola Jacobs, celebrated poet-actor, Alabi Ogundepo, and Fuji music exponent, Love Azeez, who were all Octogenarians; to younger stars like Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo), Dimba Atuya, St. Janet and Tope Osoba, the starts eclipsed one after the other.

Nollywood was most affected as the industry grieved. Our aim, with this edition is not just to mourn their glorious exit, but to also highlight their legacies.

Yet, we didn’t leave out the owner of the famed coat of many colours, Dolly Parton, who also passed away in our special treatment for the departed.

But there were celebrations too in the outgone quarter, all beautifully captured in the edition. The 80th anniversary of the King of World beats, King Sunny Ade stands out. So are Femi Odugbemi and Olu Holloway whose stories, in their respective calling, continue to inspire.

The celebration continues to Culture and carnival grounds of Osogbo and Ile Ife, both in Osun State, which hosted the famous Osun Osogbo Festival and Olojo festival during the quarter.

Our aim, in line with the stated vision of embarking on the journey of a quarterly appraisal of everything that went down in the outgone quarter (July to September 2026) is to make this edition people-oriented.

As we were putting this edition to bed, news came in that the celebrated poet, Ogaga Ifowodo, has won this year’s Nigeria Prize for Literature. His winning publication, Why Does Gun Need A Gun? Is part of the shortlisted works that we already outlined in this edition.

Our regulars – the usual review of activities for the outgone quarter came with beautiful highlights from Nollywood and the Afrobeats. What this shows is that artistes and storytellers were busy and productive and this if course is good news for the industry.

This is the reason why CQ comes your way, hit, fresh and spicy, every quarter – to celebrate and document the activities of stakeholders who constantly give cause to celebrate and reflect.

Our ‘Words on Marble’ quote has become a permanent feature of CQ. This time, it features Mr. Peter Obi’s thoughtful words in celebrating the restless Charlie Boy.

Come with us as we welcome you into a fresh edition of the Culture Quarterly.
