British Council Film Lab Africa Phase Two will mentor young Nigerian film and TV creatives through production support and industry collaboration
The British Council officially launched Film Lab Africa Phase Two in May 2026 to support emerging Nigerian film and TV creatives aged 18 to 35.

Delivered in partnership with EbonyLife Creative Academy and Iconic Steps UK, the accelerator program provides mentorship, production support, and industry matchmaking to help build sustainable careers in Africa’s screen industries.
The second cohort focuses specifically on television and episodic storytelling, guiding participants through a structured pathway from training to pilot production.

Following a curated matchmaking event hosted at the British Council office in Lagos, the program entered its production phase, pairing seven selected writers with creative producers to produce seven anthology pilot episodes
Representatives of the British Council stated that the initiative focuses on equipping participants with practical industry knowledge while encouraging collaborations that expand the global reach of African stories.

Stakeholders within the film industry note that the programme arrives at a time when Nigerian and African productions continue to gain increasing international recognition through streaming platforms, film festivals, and global distribution networks.
