Tems Obama Presidential Center Performance saw the Grammy winner perform in Chicago and mentor young women alongside Michelle Obama
Nigerian Grammy-winning singer, Temilade Openiyi, professionally knowns as Tems, was yet on another global stage in June when she performed her hit song “Me & U” at the grand opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, USA.

The historic event took place on June 18, 2026, marking the official unveiling of the center.
Tems captivated the audience with her hit track “Me & U” while wearing a striking crimson gown.
She shared the historic stage with a lineup of globally acclaimed artists, including Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, and Jennifer Hudson.
The grand opening drew prominent world leaders and dignitaries, including former U.S. Presidents Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.
The Obama Presidential Center, located on Chicago’s South Side, serves as a hub for civic engagement, education, culture, and community development.

Meanwhile, the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist and former U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama, surprised 15 aspiring young women at a songwriting workshop at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The event, part of the Center’s opening week activities, focused on creative expression, songwriting, and empowering young women to find their voices.
During the surprise visit, Tems shared advice drawn from her journey as a self-taught artist from Lagos, emphasizing authenticity and the importance of practice to build stage confidence.
Both Tems and Michelle Obama encouraged the students to use their lived experiences as a foundation for creative leadership and storytelling.

The session was hosted in the Center’s new Media Suite in partnership with After School Matters and the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance Network.
