Raymond Bola Browne tribute honours a selfless visionary whose passion, voice, and spirit helped shape the creative heart of Lagos at Freedom Park
It’s been a week (popular DJ Raymond Bola Browne died in April) since we lost you, Raymond, and the weight of your absence still feels just as heavy—almost unreal.

Words fail to capture the depth of this loss, but I must try, if only to honour the legacy you left behind.
I met Raymond nearly 15 years ago through I-Groove Radio. From that very first encounter, it was clear that he was a force—creative, driven, and deeply committed to the arts.
Over the years, he became not just a colleague, but a true friend and brother. Since the inception of Freedom Park, Raymond has been an essential part of its soul.
He poured himself into its artistic and spatial growth, breathing life into every corner with his ideas, energy, and passion.
He curated and hosted our weekly programmes and festivals with remarkable dedication—Felabration, Eastervaganza, AfrikaBoku Live, Aman Springboard, and so many more.
His voice, presence, and spirit were constants, anchoring the space and inspiring everyone who came through.
Raymond was selfless, loyal to a fault, and always willing to do the work without seeking applause.
He had an uncanny ability to spot talent, to lift others up, and to give artists—young and not so young—a platform to shine.
Raymond was selfless, loyal to a fault, and always willing to do the work without seeking applause.
He didn’t just support the arts; he lived it, shared it, and made it accessible to all.
We are struggling to come to terms with this loss. Freedom Park feels different now.
But even in our grief, we find comfort in knowing that Raymond lived fully and gave freely. His impact is etched into the very fabric of our community, and that will never fade.
Rest well, my friend. God knows best.
